ethiopia is one of our new relationship locations.  Lisa had traveled to Addis Ababa four years ago, and had met several people who were doing wonderful work with disempowered people there.  So last year, Who Cares? made the decision to  travel there with the purpose of establishing closer relationships with those workers.

Currently, Lisa is exploring the possibility of further partnering with these works in Addis.

design for dignity

The average Ethiopian earns just US$100 a year.  Up to 50% of the population live below the poverty line in substandard conditions, which are simply incomprehendable to most of us in the ‘western’ world. Design for Dignity works with marginalised communities in Ethiopia to assist them to be productive.

Design for Dignity focuses on product design and promotion, in addition to supporting broader needs such as the construction of workshops and the provision of training.  They assist communities to support themselves, their families, maintain their dignity and invest in their future.

Who Cares? loves the work of Design for Dignity. So often marginalised groups that start micro-enterprises within the creative sector fail to make their businesses successful because of their lack of business skills and their very poor designs. This organisation sensitively comes alongside these vulnerable groups and supports them to become profitable.

In May 2007 Who Cares delivered a series of Self-Esteem workshops to one of these groups. It was a wonderful time of giving and receiving.
